Pinot at Cloudy Bay
Now in its 12th year, Pinot at Cloudy Bay is a sophisticated and rare experience in the world of Pinot Noir. Hosted at Cloudy Bay's Estate Vineyard, trade representatives, wine media and Pinot lovers gather to taste and compare 18 of the most exquisite examples of the style from around the world.
The Grand Tasting is served in two flights of 9, with expert commentary and discussion provided by a panel. Guests are encouraged to share their opinion and insights as well. Nick Blampied-Lane is Cloudy Bay's Pinot Noir aficionado and is challenged each year to select the 18 wines to be showcased. Wines are selected on the basis of varietal character, quality, regional diversity and terroir. The wines must be 100 percent Pinot Noir and from a single region. It is a process that embraces elements of transparency, impartiality and above all, integrity. Whenever possible the wines are tasted blind in appropriate conditions. The prime objective is to provide a range of wines that celebrate the unique qualities and regional variations of Pinot Noir from all major regions producing this variety.
The Grand Tasting is followed by a sumptuous degustation lunch prepared by an acclaimed New Zealand chef. Served in the Barrel Room at Cloudy Bay, the meal rounds out a day of exploration of one of the most magical styles of wine.
